More and more animals are being discovered using the Earth’s magnetic field, such as sea turtles, nightingales, bees, foxes, geese, pigeons and cows. The earth’s magnetic field is their medium for keeping in touch with each other and with the course the field sets for them. To communicate with each other, other animals use specific frequencies, also called “the sweet zone for the most efficient communication.
Good communication is also essential for humans. Surprisingly, all the thoughts, feelings and emotions we use to communicate with ourselves are electromagnetic in nature. Our brain activity can be monitored with an electroencephalogram (EEG) and the heart with an electrocardiogram (ECG). The brain and heart operate with frequency patterns that appear to be the same as the electrical pulse with which the earth operates. There are more magnetite particles in the human brain than in the brains of most animals. Because of those magnetite particles, the human brain is basically hypersensitive to changes in the earth’s magnetic field. In addition, humans have light-sensitive proteins in the eyes that give them the ability to potentially see the field with their own eyes. All these aspects make humans highly capable of communicating with a larger electromagnetic context. This is also evident in heliobiology; a new field of study that examines the impact of the sun’s electromagnetic influence on our health.
An electric past
Some plasma physicists describe a world with a different electro climate, a world where the atmosphere was filled with all kinds of electrical phenomena; a bit like the northern lights, but much stronger. Numerous ancient images in ancient stories, of people with radiation fields and similar phenomena, could perhaps be a distorted reflection of life in a much more electrically charged world; a world then, in which things were visible that are mostly unseen now.
It seems that that world disappeared simply because the energy disappeared as the strength of the earth’s magnetic field dropped below a certain level, causing electricity to seep out of the atmosphere.
With today’s knowledge, more and more voices are calling for looking at history with different eyes. This article looks from a different perspectieve at the world of the asega’s, wise representatives of Germanic mound dwellers, who lived between 800 B.C. and 800 A.D. – a time when the Earth’s magnetic field was much, much stronger than today’s field.

The origins of the Netherlands
From history lessons, we have generally retained a primitive image of the old Netherlands; it was little more than a ghostly sand mound, left over from the Ice Age. As the polar cap retreated northward, mud was left behind. Here fog reigned, and the sea raced over the sandbanks. Only around 4000 B.C. did the first humans dare to settle in that sopping wet wilderness. Sometime around 1000 B.C., Germanic tribes began to organize themselves and build structured settlements, including in present-day Twente and North Groningen. These marshlanders built artificial mounds to keep their heads above water. The earliest lore describes them as little more than mud workers. They tried to warm their cold bodies by burning peat that they dug out of the earth with bare hands and dried slightly in the wind – the smoke production must have been enormous.

The ancient Netherlands consisted mainly of water and forests. The trees in those forests, as we now know, communicated with each other through electrical signals, among other things. With the inertia of one centimeter per second, trees send signals to each other and their surroundings through the mycelium, which functions as a kind of forest internet. And recently we also know that trees communicate with the Earth’s magnetic field. How did they do that, with an Earth’s magnetic field that was much more powerful than today? How did that powerful field affect worms, bacteria, birds, fish and jellyfish, all of which also communicate with each other via electrical signals? What did that electrical climate do to the ancient Dutch?
The wet and desolate image we have left of the early Netherlands has another side. The salt water of the North Sea is under constant influence of the Earth’s magnetic field. Recently, scientists have discovered that the tidal movement of seawater, in conjunction with the geomagnetic field, generates all kinds of electric currents that find their way through the seawater to the coasts. Thus, it appears that the geomagnetic field affects the seawater and the seawater affects the field.
Because the field was stronger in the time of the ancient Dutch, we do not know what they recorded of its influence. What we now see as fog, for example, they may have seen coming to life in a different way in their time. Does that idea of electromagnetism in the atmosphere perhaps help place the phenomenon of the ‘witte wieven’, the folkloric creatures in the history of the Northern and Eastern Netherlands, that appeared like a combination of female figures and electrifying patches of fog that floated over the water and among the trees and interacted in strange ways with people, animals and plants?
Searching for intelligence
The first inhabitants of the Netherlands built and rebuilt their settlements on mounds on the banks of creeks. The tides did their work and the daily problems they faced were enormous. Yet they did not simply try to solve those problems themselves without first consulting something else. No matter how difficult the circumstances sometimes were. Every year, each tribe sent a wise asega to a special place in the Northeast. During the meetings of the asegas, also called The Thing, all delegates were expected to help find human laws by listening to the influence of the higher order of EWA. EWA meant “eternal law” and represented the order that was too rarefied material, or too electromagnetic, to be written down. According to lore, it is the EWA that teaches a person’s mind to evaluate itself and helps man overcome that which feels wrong in himself. The EWA, also called AWA, is said to help innocence and banish cruelty. One of the rules that governed the process was “he or she who knows better may say so”. The Thing was held under the branches of the sacred tree, the Upstals Tree. The word asega consists of ‘A’, The Law and ‘Sega’, The Speaker; ‘he or she who speaks the AWA’.
In those mound times, the Germanic people, and their representatives the asega’s, did not yet have rulers or kings to govern them. They intuitively formed a kind of natural democracy governed solely by the EWA. The asega’s and the peoples they represented may have been guided by other forms of intelligence. From our time, it is virtually impossible to judge whether their lives were more primitive, or more spiritually developed, than our lives today.
The human law necessary at that time, in all its imperfection, had to be repeatedly derived spontaneously from the higher order of the EWA. For them, the earth’s magnetic field was the source of their forever newfound insights. Did they use ‘the sweet zone for the most efficient communication’ for that? Did they use the magnetite crystals in their heads for that purpose?
The ancient Dutch were surrounded by the electrical communication of animals and plants and, because of the strength of the earth’s magnetic field in their time, may also have had a form of consciousness about it that does not fit the 21st-century way of thinking. The life of the ancient Dutch was most likely more of a mystery then we can now perceive. They lived with an abundance of energy that hovered like a permanent shiver in the air above their heads, whispering messages to the fish, to the water, to the birds, to the trees, to the bacteria and.., to the asega’s. It formed a logic that now cannot be understood outside of practical experience with that energetic reality. They may not have needed rulers because they were governed by other forms of intelligence. Forms of intelligence that now seem too bizarre for words, but in the light of the possible return of much more energy to Earth, might contain important insights for the future.

Wise asega’s gather in ‘The Thing’
Asega’s in other parts of Europe
Everywhere on earth the earth’s magnetic field was stronger, not just in the Netherlands. That what the asega’s did in the Netherlands the augurs did in the ancient Roman empire. An augur was a priest whose job was to deduce the will of the higher, such as from a flight of birds. The word for auspices comes from bird watching. Augurs were mediators between the worlds of the higher and the world of humans. They observed and analyzed the signs that the higher sent them through the birds, and based on those signs they advised the state on what should and should not be done. Fascinating, considering that birds par excellence have a tremendous sensitivity to variations in the earth’s magnetic field. A stronger field in the time of the augurs and the asega’s possibly gave meanings to the movements of bird swarms beyond current comprehension.

The augurs – An augur observed signs within a predetermined sacred space, the templum. The templum corresponded to an open space within a certain area. The augur’s decisions were based on what was seen, recorded or heard within the templum. Signs included thunder, lightning, falling objects and especially bird signs: birds in a group or alone, their sounds, direction of flight, species and numbers. How the will of the higher made itself known within the confines of the templum was read and translated. All this was under auspices. Thus a ceremonial meeting place was created between man and the energies at play in the earth’s magnetic field. For the asega’s, “The Thing” was the templum.
The insight of a possible close intertwining of medicine men, augurs, shamans, druids and asega’s with the intelligences that can be deduced from the earth’s magnetic field may offer a new way of looking at history.
Many stories are also told about the asega’s of after 800 AD, of when the Frisians and Saxons in the North had been overrun by Charlemagne’s Franks. A new order was imposed on the Frisians. It became a time when man began to take control of the world and when the earth’s magnetic field began to recede, with which its mystical influence also disappeared. The time of building mounds of mud came to an end, and the way of life of the original asega’s, who lived in harmony with the water, was replaced by a struggle against the water.
A new order of asega’s
Many people now realise that, in this day and age, the ever-faster decline of the Earth’s magnetic field is creating new opportunities. As the planetary field weakens, the influence of cosmic energy on Earth is growing. The influence of the Earth’s magnetic field is rapidly being replaced by electromagnetic input from a much larger context.
More and more people are looking for experiences with, or signs of, this new electromagnetic coherence. A growing individual and collective awareness seems to be emerging about this. It may be a desire to reflect on the new, much greater Eternal Law (EWA) and the possible emergence of a new generation of people. People such as the asega’s and the augurs. This is not a vague desire for a return to nature, but rather a concrete and practical desire to give nature a way back to people.
